Leeds United have already begun planning for the summer, with a host of big name players already linked with moves to Elland Road.

The decision by Marcelo Bielsa to stay put in West Yorkshire was always going to be a big one which helped the club entice players, with the likes of Helder Costa and Ryan Kent among those being linked with moves to the Whites in recent weeks.

However, the club are today being linked with a shock move for Italian international and footballing legend Gianluigi Buffon.

According to Italian newspaper Corriere, Leeds are mentioned as one of a number of clubs thought to be interested in signing the experienced stopper, who at 41 is coming right up towards the end of his illustrious career.

Along with Brazilian side Fluminese and Portugues giants Porto, Buffon is linked by the report with a move as he considers his next move following a season with PSG in Ligue 1.

A move to Elland Road would of course be a sensational swoop for the club, but Buffon has never set foot in the English game and he might well just fancy a season over on these shores under the guidance of a manager like Marcelo Bielsa.

Buffon has been a regular at club and country level for over 20 years now, enjoying spells with Parma and Juventus on his way to becoming an Italian legend.

The Verdict

This is unbelievable news in all honesty, but it would be absolutely amazing if it was true and came off.

Buffon needs little to no introduction in the game, he is a true legend.

Crucially though, he remains a class act, and with the Whites having issues in between the sticks, they would be solving a massive problem within the squad.

If this comes off, it will truly be one of the finest Championship transfers of all time.
