Kevin Phillips has tipped Tottenham left-back Danny Rose to join Leeds United this summer, a move that would see him return to his boyhood club after 13 years away.

The 29-year-old's Spurs future looks in doubt as he had fallen out of favour at the North London club in the first half of the season and moved to Newcastle United on loan in January.

Rose's current deal with Tottenham is set to expire next summer, so you feel the club may be looking to cash in on him in the upcoming window to ensure he doesn't walk away for nothing.

Speaking to Football Insider, Phillips suggested the England international's experience could be useful if Leeds are promoted this term and tipped them to move for the left-back.

He said: "It would not surprise me. You see it quite often that players from that area end up back at the club.

“Danny Rose has got the Premier League experience and can still do it. He is still a class left-back.

“I am sure the new owners at Newcastle would like to keep Rose but the player could be tempted by a move to Yorkshire and be a part of what Leeds are building there.

“That experience would help the squad. It would not surprise me if he pitched up at Leeds whenever the transfer window open – assuming Leeds going up.”

It is understood that the Whites will face competition from Newcastle, who are keen to pursue a permanent deal for the defender in the summer.

If Leeds can get the deal done it would see Rose return to the Yorkshire club after 13 years away.

The 29-year-old was born in Doncaster and progressed through the Whites academy system but was snapped up by Tottenham in 2007 before making a senior appearance for Leeds.

The Verdict

You can see where Phillips is coming from here, this could be a move that satisfies all parties.

It seems as though the defender's days are numbered at Tottenham and you'd imagine the North London club will look to offload him this summer.

If Leeds are promoted this term, adding some Premier League experience would make sense and Rose is the sort of dynamic full-back that could thrive in Bielsa's system.

It would be something of a homecoming for the 29-year-old and perhaps an exciting project to be part of.
