Derby winger, Florian Jozefzoon has been linked with a surprise move to German side, Schalke according to Football Insider.

The 28-year-old struggled for regular game time under Frank Lampard in last year’s league campaign and could be tempted by a move elsewhere before the new season gets underway.

In our latest FLW Six Pointer, we look into this potential deal in more detail.

Firstly, how did Jozefzoon perform last season for the Rams?

"The Dutchman will be disappointed with the lack of impact he made for Derby last season, where he struggled for consistency.

"He made just 13 league starts, scoring just twice, and assisting once in a hugely frustrating time working under Frank Lampard, who has since moved on to Chelsea.

"He'll be hoping for an improvement in next year's campaign, whether that be at Derby or Schalke."

Would he be capable of adjusting to the step up to the Bundesliga?

"I think he’s got a point to prove at a higher level.

"He has struggled to replicate the form shown at Brentford, which will be frustrating for Jozefzoon, but if he can recapture his best form, then it would be an excellent signing for the German side.

"He offers pace and trickery going forward, and could be a game-changer for Schalke with his direct style of play.

Will he be tempted to move to Schalke?

"He'll definitely be tempted to make the move over to Germany if Schalke are to make a formal approach to sign him.

"He's struggled for game time with Derby, and might want a fresh start outside of England, after previously playing his football with Brentford.

"Schalke are playing at a higher level of football, and any footballer is going to be wanting to play at the highest standard possible, so a move certainly shouldn’t be ruled out."

Is there a chance he could stay with Derby for another season?

"This is a possibility, but they might be fighting a losing battle.

"Jozefzoon only made 27 appearances for the Rams in last year’s league campaign, and is likely to be frustrated with that.

"But with Phillip Cocu taking charge of the first-team after Frank Lampard joined Chelsea, it could be a fresh start for the winger, who might be favoured by the Dutchman.

"The Derby boss will be keen to assess his options ahead of the new season, before making any rash decisions on his players’ futures."

How much is he worth in today’s market?

"Derby will be hoping to get a fee in the region of £2m in my opinion.

"They signed him for a fee of £2.75m back in the summer of 2018 , so they’ll be keen to get most of their money back for him, even though he’s struggled to perform to a high standard for the Rams.

"He’s already shown earlier in his career that he can be a really good player, it’s just that he lacks consistency which could tempt Derby into selling him."

Would he big a big loss for Cocu’s side?

"It wouldn’t be the biggest loss in the world, it’s safe to say.

"The 28-year-old only made 13 league starts last season, so he evidently isn’t rated as highly as other members of the Derby squad.

"He’ll feel as though he’s got a point to prove in the Championship though, after a lack of impact with the Rams in recent months.

"I’d be surprised if Phillip Cocu didn’t make any signings before the season starts in August, and Derby already have stronger options such as Martyn Waghorn who is likely to start ahead of the former Brentford man."

How should Derby supporters be feeling about his rumoured exit?

"At this moment in time, they should be slightly concerned, as Derby don’t have much depth in wide areas heading into the new season.

"Jozefzoon might not have been a key player for the Rams in last year’s campaign, but with Harry Wilson returning to Liverpool from his loan spell with Derby, Jozefzoon could find himself in the starting XI when the new season gets underway.

"It wouldn’t be a huge loss, but he’s a player that is more than good enough to be playing on a regular basis for the Rams in my opinion, so it would be frustrating for supporters if they were to sell him without having a replacement lined up."
