Birmingham City manager Pep Clotet needs to have a re-think following a 3-0 defeat to Swansea City at the weekend, a result that left the Blues in 15th place in the Championship, with seven points from a possible 15 after five rounds of fixtures.

Clotet is considering strengthening his squad with a move for centre-half Denis Vivar Becerra who is available on a free-transfer after ending his contract with Malaga, as confirmed by Sun journalist Alan Nixon on Twitter.

So would Vivar Becerra be a good addition at St Andrews?

Louie Chandler

"It wouldn't be a bad idea at all.

"Birmingham remain a bit short in central defence so bringing in a free agent would be a good shout in my opinion.

"Losing Michael Morrison will have had a huge impact on the dressing room so addressing that absence in any way they can has got to be a good shout.

"A few question marks will remain over whether or not he will be able to adapt to the Championship, but I think it is worth a go."

Toby Wilding

"This may not be too bad a move.

"With Becerra having been released by Malaga's youth side over the summer, I do wonder slightly about his ability to compete at Championship level, although with options including Kristian Pedersen, Marc Roberts and Maxime Colin all already capable of playing the centre back role at the club, there would be no pressure to throw him in at the deep end any time soon

"You feel therefore that there would be plenty of time to help Becerra develop to a point where he is ready to compete for Birmingham at that level, and his versatility - with the Spaniard also able to play a holding midfield role - could make him an even more useful option for the Midlands side.

"Having already brough in several Spaniards to work under Spanish boss Pep Clotet this summer, it does seem as though there may be something of a trend to Birmingham's approach in the market this summer, and a move for Becerra does look as though it would fit in with that."

Dean Cooke

"I assume he'd be a back up centre-half due to the current back three that Birmingham play, but it could be a shrewd signing in terms of style, and the way Pep Clotet now wants to play.

"I don't personally think it would be a good signing, as he's just been in Malaga's youth team and an unknown quantity like that could be disastrous in the Championship.

"At the same time, he could be very good but it's unlikely and not worth the risk at all. Birmingham need to establish themselves after a few years of discomfort.

"I'm sure Clotet would know his strengths and weaknesses but surely he wouldn't put him in his starting XI this early in to a Championship season. We'll see."
