Sheffield Wednesday this summer made striker Jordan Rhodes their record signing, following a loan deal from Middlesbrough the year before.

The Scottish striker scored 3 times in 18 appearances for the Owls last season, but a clause in his loan deal left Wednesday with an obligation to buy the player from the Teessiders this summer.

However, despite only just making the move permanent, Rhodes has been linked with a move away from Hillsborough, with Sunderland and Wolves two of the clubs interested in a swoop for the former Huddersfield and Blackburn man.

Rhodes was prolific during spells with the Terriers and Rovers, scoring 73 and 83 league goals for the respective clubs, making the player one of the hottest strikers in the Football League.

Moves to Boro and Wednesday haven’t quite worked out for the striker, and with the Owls open to the option of Rhodes leaving, boss Carlos Carvalhal should consider some shrewd manoeuvring.

If the club can recoup the money they parted with to bring Rhodes to the club, Carvalhal should instantly launch a bid for Norwich striker, Nelson Oliveira.

The impressive forward has been linked with a move away from Carrow Road this summer, with Reading prime candidates for the Portuguese international’s signature.

A compatriot of Carvalhal’s, Oliveria could be open to a Yorkshire move, with Wednesday likely to challenge for a place in the top six yet again this term.

Oliveira is a wonderful striker, highlighted by the fact that he has made the Portugal squad for World Cup qualifiers this week despite playing in the second tier, and would certainly be an upgrade on Rhodes.

A lot would have to happen and quickly for this move to materialise, but with time to spare, Carvalhal could certainly pull this deal off in the remaining days of the summer window.

Wednesday fans, would you swap Rhodes for Oliveira this summer?
