Leeds United are showing an interest in St Gallen defender Silvan Hefti, according to the Yorkshire Evening Post.

Marcelo Bielsa's future at the club is still yet to be clarified following their play-off semi-final defeat, but it is understood the Whites have already set their sights on a list of targets ahead of next term.

The 21-year-old was a regular at the heart of defence for his side as he made 39 appearances, with St Gallen finishing fifth in the Swiss Super League last season.

He could provide competition for the likes of Liam Cooper, Pontus Jansson and Gaetano Berardi in defence, while his young age means he could also be a signing with the future in mind.

So, would Hefti be a good signing for Leeds as they look to instigate another promotion charge next season?

We discuss...

Jacob Potter

"It would solve a problem position for the Whites.

"Hefti has been a regular for St Gallen this season, and he's a versatile option to have as he can play in the centre of defence, or at right-back.

"Leeds fans will be fearing that he could be Pontus Jansson's replacement though surely?"

Toby Wilding

"This may be a signing worth pursuing.

"Leeds have found themselves short in defence due to injuries recently, and have already paid the full price of that. They will therefore need to bring in new defensive options over the summer.

"While I can't see Hefti breaking into that Leeds defence as it currently is, he could provide a reliable alternative for it should those injury problems arise again next season."

Ben Lang

"I'm quite a fan of this potential signing.

"Hefti looks to be a solid defender with a high degree of versatility, and it is an area that Leeds definitely need to strengthen in after their shortages there this season.

"I'm sure Leeds fans would rather the club target a more familiar name, but Bielsa would be capable of turning Hefti in a player who could really fit into Leeds' system."
