It promises to be a very busy end to the window at West Brom as new boss Slaven Bilic looks to build a squad capable of winning promotion.

The Croatian has had to deal with several key players from last season leaving. Dwight Gayle returned to Newcastle after his loan was up and Craig Dawson and Jay Rodriguez have joined Watford and Burnley respectively.

Whilst their departures leave holes to fill in the squad, it has also given the manager some funds to work with in the market.

And, Albion are now making moves, with QPR’s Darnell Furlong signed and Everton’s Mason Holgate another targets to bolster the Baggies defence according to the Express & Star.

Here we look at what they would bring to the club in our latest FLW Six Pointer…

1) Firstly, would these two strengthen Albion’s defence?

“Without a doubt. Albion have just lost arguably their best defender in Dawson who will be a big miss at the heart of the defence.

“Meanwhile, right-back was an issue up until January when Holgate came in but even that isn’t his natural position.

“So, Furlong should slot in easily at full-back and that will leave Holgate to replace Dawson at centre-back. They’re both good moves for Albion.”

2) Is Bilic right to be prioritising that area of the pitch?

“Yes and it will encourage fans that he is acting quickly and decisively to improve the team.

“Albion had two players who hit over 20 league goals last season yet they only finished fourth and didn’t really sustain a challenge for automatic promotion, so that highlights how their defence wasn’t good enough at crucial moments.”

“Right-back was a particular problem position, so Furlong’s arrival will be very welcome.”

3) This would be Holgate’s second spell with Albion, did he impress first time around?

“Yes, he did, although as mentioned he is likely to play in a more central role next season.

“However, his time at the club in the previous campaign could be a real benefit as Holgate knows the club and most of his teammates, so settling in should be relatively straightforward.

“He proved that he is a capable defender and should be a good addition to the team.”

4) For Furlong, it’s a slight step up. Is he capable of playing for a side competing for promotion?

“Yes, you would think so.

“He has done well in the Championship over the past few years with the R’s and clearly has a lot of talent.

“He is no longer a kid now and has matured a lot, so he should be embracing the challenge of playing for a side who expect to be near the top and he will still have the hunger to prove himself.”

5) So, should West Brom fans be excited by this?

“Yes, because they are two players who are needed.

“Furlong is in and will solve a problem position whilst Holgate is a top quality young defender who has the potential to star at this level.

“They will both add a lot to the team and Bilic will have a pretty strong defensive unit if he can complete a deal for Holgate as well.”

6) Finally, what are the chances of Holgate signing up to join Furlong at The Hawthorns?

“You would have to say that they have a very good chance.

“Holgate appeared to enjoy himself at West Brom after joining in January and that will give them a major advantage over other Championship sides.

“The only issue will be if a Premier League side comes in but that seems unlikely and you could see the Baggies moving quickly to sign the Everton man. If joins alongside Furlong it would represent very smart business.”
