Chelsea are interested in signing Jude Bellingham from Birmingham City, according to a report in The Sun, with the Blues looking to go head-to-head with Manchester United as both clubs look to land the teen starlet.
Birmingham battled to keep Bellingham at St Andrew’s during the January window after United offered £25 million for the youngster, that the Blues rejected, however, with Chelsea, Real Madrid and Barcelona also interested, this could lead to a bidding war for the wonderkid at the end of the season.
So would Chelsea be a good club for Bellingham’s development?
“It would be the perfect club for him.
“That’s not something you would have said a few years ago but things have changes significantly for youngsters at Stamford Bridge following Frank Lampard’s appointment.
“He is prepared to give those coming through a chance and that will appeal to Bellingham. Even though he is making a step up, he will want to be involved in the first-team next season and he would get that with Chelsea.
“Of course, he will face a huge battle to play but that’s the case at every big club. But, out of the interested clubs, Chelsea will appeal the most because of Lampard’s willingness to turn to youth.”

“Whereas Bellingham unquestionably possesses a wide array of skills, it could be argued that joining Chelsea at this stage of his career could turn out to be a mistake.
“Although Frank Lampard has given the likes of Mason Mount, Reece James and Fikayo Tomori the chance to prove themselves in the Premier League, he may not be able to guarantee regular first-team football for Bellingham.
“With Hakim Ziyech set to move to Chelsea in the summer from Ajax, competition for places in the heart of midfield will be fierce.
“If Bellingham is to leave Birmingham following the culmination of the 2019/20 campaign, it is imperative that he joins a club who are prepared to build a team around him as this could do wonders for his development.”
“In comparison to the other interested club’s that have been mentioned, Chelsea seems like a bit of a risky move for a player of Bellingham’s age.
“The competition for places in midfield at Stamford Bridge is particularly high with the Blues already possessing a plethora of central midfield players who can also operate on the flanks if needs be.
“Bellingham would certainly be better off staying put at the Championship club for a few more years as this would in theory provide him with the adequate game time he needs to develop his game further in an environment that he feels comfortable in.
“Lastly, it must also be noted that Chelsea have recently agreed a deal for Ajax’s attacking midfielder Hakim Ziyech, who is also a versatile central player that can play in multiple positions, only adding to the amount of competition that Bellingham could face if he made a move to Stamford Bridge.”
