Middlesbrough’s Marcus Tavernier is attracting interest from Manchester United, who have reportedly been monitoring the midfielder’s development at the Riverside Stadium.

The Daily Mail are reporting that Man United have had scouts monitoring Tavernier, with a view to bringing the 19-year-old into their under-23 side in the future.

So far this season, the England under-20 international has made 11 appearances and returned three first-team goals for Boro.

Should Man United come knocking would it be a good move?

We discuss…

Jay Taylor

What a waste of a move this would be for the player.

He is far better than to be playing U23s football and would only be loaned out to another league club.

So the benefits of moving to Manchester United would obviously be financial, but I would not envisage him making any sort of an impact there.

It would be a waste of talent, and he is far better off staying at Middlesbrough for the time being.

I wouldn’t be going to Man United right now if I was Tavernier.

It might be a once in a lifetime move but they are in turmoil, and is he really ever going to get a chance under Mourinho? Probably not.

He might be a decent long term signing for United, but for the player, I’d be sticking where I am or looking elsewhere if I could.

Louie Chandler

He's a good signing as far as their Under-23s are concerned.

But let's be honest, odds are he is will never play for the first team apart from in the odd League Cup match.

It would be career suicide for the Boro man to agree to the move.
