Despite Sheffield Wednesday's poor start to the season and injury crisis, Carlos Carvalhal has been reluctant to throw many kids into the team.

Whether they have enough talented youngsters coming through is a another question but one player who surely deserves a chance is George Hirst.

The 18-year old, son of Owls legend David, isn't currently involved because of a contract dispute that looks set to spell the end of his Wednesday career before it's really begun.

The club have accused Hirst of demanding ridiculous money and talks have completely broken down between the two parties.

However, with the current strikers struggling to find the net, should Carvalhal utilise Hirst whilst he has the chance?

We take a look...

Hirst should’ve been unleashed weeks ago, but it is obvious that Sheffield Wednesday will stand firm on their side of the deal and not play the striker due to his contract disputes.

It is a real shame for the Owls, as Hirst is an extremely talented forward, who could have made a real impact in the first-team at Hillsborough.

However, his days in South Yorkshire look numbered, and it would be a real surprise to see Carvalhal hand the teenager any kind of opportunity in the coming weeks.

I don't think Hirst will play for Wednesday again having turned down contract offers from the club and looking likely to leave in the summer.

They certainly could do with a player of his size and ability in front of goal, but his Owls career is all but over, and I wouldn't be surprised to see him leave in January.

George Dagless

Fans would love it but I don't see it.

Hirst is still yet to sign a new deal with the club and until he does that he won't play a senior game.

The Owls don't look close to getting him to sign, either, and so I think this is a pipe dream for now.
