Wigan Athletic are in danger of getting sucked into a relegation battle, after their latest match, a 0-0 draw with Middlesbrough leaving them just three points off the drop zone with 12 matches remaining this season.
Their situation though is not stopping Latics manager Paul Cook looking ahead to next season, with Chelsea youngster Matt Miazga who is currently on loan at Reading, a player he fancies, according to the print edition of the Sun on Sunday (March 3, page 61).
So would Miazga be a good signing for Wigan?
“Yes, he’s a decent player and could boost Wigan’s squad.
“Much depends on them staying up of course.
“I know they’re only on the edge of the relegation race, but would he go there if they dropped?”
“They could do with a defender.
“But next season could be too late if their poor form continues.
“The Latics have not been the same since Dan Burn left – they could have done with him in January.”
“It would be a real coup.
“He has been excellent for Reading this season, and I would be surprised if Wigan were able to persuade him to join them over the Royals.
“What a signing this could be if they pull it off.”
