Kalvin Phillips was one of the standout players for Leeds United last season and Aston Villa are preparing a £14million bid to sign the midfielder this summer, according to The Telegraph.

The 23-year-old had an outstanding campaign for the Whites and developed into one of the best defensive midfield players in the Championship.

Villa boss Dean Smith is looking to improve his squad following their promotion to the Premier League and has made Phillips one of his top transfer targets for the summer.

Phillips has two years remaining on his contract at Elland Road and this latest report states that Leeds are ready to demand up to £20million for the midfielder.

Villa are preparing a £14million bid and are expected to make an official approach for the player within the next few weeks.

So, should Leeds accept £14million for Phillips? We discuss...

Toby Wilding

"I don't think so.

"If they are holding out for £20million for Jack Clarke, I'd be amazed if they let Phillips go for £14million.

"Phillips is more experienced and capable than Clarke, so would surely be worth more than the 18-year-old, regardless of whether their valuation of him is accurate or not."

Kealan Hughes

"That would be a very good offer for a player who has never played in the Premier League.

"It would also provide Leeds with enough resources to bring in an adequate replacement and strengthen other areas of the squad, so it is a deal they should consider.

"However, if they fail to bring in a decent replacement the fans would rightly be disappointed in the decision to let go of another academy product who has proved valuable to the team, so it would be a huge risk."

George Brooks

"I'm not convinced Leeds should accept this and the club should think very carefully before making a decision.

"Phillips was excellent for Leeds last season and he's probably the one player they cannot afford to lose this summer.

"Bielsa transformed him into one of the best defensive midfielders in the league and no one in the Leeds team is capable of filling that role as effectively as him.

"There's no denying that £14million is a very significant amount of money and Bielsa would be able to use this to considerably strengthen his squad, but Leeds may struggle to find a replacement for Phillips and I think they would regret letting him go."
