Sheffield United are on the lookout for a forward having sold exciting youngster David Brooks to Bournemouth earlier in the week.

Chris Wilder has made no secret of his desire to land a new number nine and will hope to reinvest a portion of the Brooks money on a new striker.

And, one man that has been suggested as a possible signing is Aston Villa's Scott Hogan.

The Ireland international joined Villa from Brentford, where he scored plenty of goals, but things haven't really worked out for him in the West Midlands.

That, combined with Villa's awful financial situation, means that he could move on this summer and Bramall Lane has been suggested as a possible destination.

However, there are still issues for the Blades financially given the wages he will command.

Yet, if a deal could be reached, would he be a good signing by Wilder?

Our writers shared their thoughts...

George Dagless

It's a good sounding deal.

Sheffield United have a bit of cash now and if they feel they could get something out of Hogan it's worth a go.

Certainly, Villa could do with any cash they might offer.

Alfie Burns

They would be a good fit, but I doubt Sheffield United would pay his fee or the wages involved.

Hogan is an excellent Championship striker, who would complement what Wilder has available to him.

However, I just can’t see a deal happening.

Gary Hutchinson

Sure, why not? Hogan didn't make a huge impact at Aston Villa last season but he's a good striker and may well suit Sheffield United better.

He's got Championship experience and would hit the ground running too.

Jay Williams

Wages are a real stumbling block but if they could somehow pull this off, it would be a great signing.

Hogan knows where the net is at this level but things have not gone quite so smoothly at Aston Villa.

At Sheffield United, he would be the main man up top and could easily reach 20 goals again next term.
