Reading are locked in a transfer tussle with Bristol City and Blackburn Rovers to the potential signing of out-of-contract West Brom midfielder, James Morrison according to Sky Sports' Keith Downie.

The reporter revealed that Jose Gomes' side were one of the teams keeping track of the experienced Scotsman ahead of next year's league campaign.

Morrison is a free agent after being released from West Brom at the end of last year's campaign.

The 33-year-old made 19 league appearances for the Baggies as they narrowly missed out on promotion after being beaten on penalties by Aston Villa in their play-off semi-final.

Morrison evidently wasn't seen in West Brom's plans for the future, but he could certainly fit in at Reading as they look for a better season than last year's.

Jose Gomes' side finished 20th in the Championship, and will be looking to make new signings on the cheap to comply with FFP regulations.

But would Morrison be a good signing for the Royals?

We discuss....

Louie Chandler:

"I think this would be smart.

"Reading improved towards the end of last season but there is no question that they will need to strengthen in the summer to maintain that momentum.

"Midfielders don't come more experienced than Morrison and it would add some serious quality to the Royals midfield - especially from set-pieces."

Toby Wilding:

"This would be a great signing by Reading.

"Morrison would bring some welcome experience to the centre of the park for Reading, and it seems he still has the determination to keep playing on.

"His availability on a free does help Reading out somewhat here, and reduces the financial risk if this becomes a signing that fails to work out on the pitch."

Kealan Hughes:

"This would be a fantastic signing for Reading.

"He is available on a free too which means it would be a bargain. He has always contributed goals to West Brom in the past and despite being 33, he still has a lot to offer in the Championship.

"His experience and influence on the group will also be invaluable, and he should work out well at Reading if they can keep him fit, which would be a bit of a concern."
