Gareth Southgate has named his squad for the Nations League matches in October against Croatia and Spain, and has named Derby County's Mason Mount in the side, who is currently on loan from Chelsea.

Mount has excelled under Frank Lampard this season making 14 appearances and scoring five goals in all competitions, that has led to him getting his first call-up alongside James Maddison and Jadon Sancho.

But is Mount's call-up to the senior England squad deserved?

We discuss.....

Jay Taylor

He does in a way.

It has been a while since an England manager has delved into the Championship.

Albeit Mason Mount is only there on loan he is young and the future of the England national team.

It is deserved for his form this season but, hopefully, for him, it won’t be a one-off.

George Dagless

I think so.

Whether or not you think it's an issue the Premier League doesn't have enough players to call on is another thing.

Mount has been very good, though, and he wouldn't look out of his depth in the top flight already.

Gary Hutchinson

He does, but I think there’s others that deserve it just as much.

It won’t please Troy Deeney, that is for sure!

I’m disappointed because I think Ryan Sessegnon should have gone to Russia, but it is nice to know Southgate is looking down as well.

If someone like Jack Marriott got to 20 goals before Christmas, would he be picked? Or is it still the elite club players who attract the attention?
