Viv Solomon-Otabor has recently announced on Instagram that he has left Birmingham City after five seasons with the first-team.

He made 40 appearances in total for the Blues, and will be keen to show Birmingham what they're missing out on as he plays his football elsewhere.

In our latest FLW Six Pointer, we look into his departure in more detail.

Firstly, how did Solomon-Otabor perform for the Blues last season?

"He struggled for a consistent run in the first-team for much of last season, which will have been frustrating for the winger.

"Solomon-Otabor didn't make a single league start for the Blues, and was restricted to just eight substitute appearances, so the writing was on the wall.

"He was sent out on loan to Portsmouth midway through the season, but he will have known that a permanent move away from St Andrew's was likely to be on the cards."

Did Garry Monk have better options available to him?

"He definitely had better options in his squad last season, which was evident as he was loaned out to Portsmouth to find regular game time in senior football.

"Jota and Jacques Maghoma were stronger and more experienced options to use in the Birmingham first-team in last year's campaign, so it wasn't a surprise to see Solomon-Otabor not featuring as much as he would have liked to.

"Monk recently left Birmingham, but I still struggled to see where the 23-year-old would fit into their starting XI next term."

Have the club made a mistake in letting him leave?

"I don't think they've made a mistake in moving him on.

"He's a player that was an outcast for much of his time in the first-team, so the club won't be overly disappointed to not renew his contract.

"If you're basing the decision on his performances for the Blues, then it will have been a no-brainer to let him leave the club before the new season gets underway in August."

Should Portsmouth have tried to make his loan a permanent deal?

"They would have been tempted, but he didn't make enough of an impact on loan in my opinion.

"He made six appearances in total, but only scored once, as Pompey missed out on promotion into the Championship after a defeat to Sunderland in their play-off semi-final.

"If he had made more of an impact, then I'm sure Kenny Jackett would have been keen to make an offer to sign him permanently."

Has he got another move lined up already?

"He's wasted no time at all in finding a new club ahead of the new season.

"It had been reported by allnigeriansoccer.com, that Solomon-Otabor was been linked with a move to Bulgarian giants, CSKA Sofia, which certainly came as a surprising potential destination for the winger.

"But this move has been all but confirmed after he was pictured posing with the CSKA Sofia shirt shortly after making an announcement on his Birmingham departure."

Lastly, how should Birmingham fans feel about his departure?

"They won't be majorly disappointed to be honest.

"The 23-year-old struggled for a consistent run in the Birmingham team in recent years, and it won't come as a surprise to see him leaving the club.

"But if he can find some consistency in his performances at his next club, then this could prove to be a mistake, but only time will tell if that is to be the case.

"It's a move that makes sense, and Birmingham supporters won't be too concerned about his departure."
