With the end of the January transfer window looming, Derby County winger Florian Jozefzoon looks like he is going nowhere, according to Athletic journalist Ryan Conway on Twitter, despite the fact that the 28-year-old has struggled to get game-time under Phillip Cocu so far this season.

The former PSV winger has made only 10 appearances for the Rams so far this season, but with no real interest in taking the player on-loan or permanently, it looks likely he will have to remain at Pride Park till at least the end of the season.

So should Cocu look to start using Jozefzoon amid this latest update?

"It will be down to how he trains.

"I can understand why Derby wanted to sell but if there's no one interested in him there's not much they can do and it would be daft of Cocu to freeze someone out.

"The Rams are struggling so they need any quality player they can get and if Jozefzoon can get back to the form he showed at Brentford then he would make an impact on this team. Unfortunately, that seems a long way away given his displays in the past few months.

"However, it's now all down to the player. Quite simply he must show the boss he deserves a chance in training and take any opportunities that come his way following on from that."

“Given that Jozefzoon is set to stay at Derby, manager Phillip Cocu ought to consider bringing him back into his plans for the remainder of the season.

“Although the winger has struggled to deliver the goods on a consistent basis for the Rams since joining the club in 2018, he unquestionably possesses a wide array of skills.

“By providing the right guidance to Jozefzoon, there is no reason why Cocu cannot get the very best out of the former Brentford winger in the coming months.

“Given that the Rams are currently 10 points adrift of the play-off places in the Championship, it could be argued that they are in need of a spark and thus turning to Jozefzoon for inspiration may be a risk worth taking.”

George Harbey

"I think this is a real blow for Derby as it would have been best to get rid of Jozefzoon this month, in my opinion.

"He is a player that has disappointed hugely since arriving at Pride Park, and his confidence looks to be shot after falling out of favour under both Frank Lampard and Phillip Cocu.

"Even though Derby are unbeaten in the games he's started in this season, Jozefzoon doesn't loolk anywhere near as dangerous on the ball as he did during his time at Brentford, and he often goes missing when it matters for the Rams.

"But you have to say that one Derby really lack at present is natural width, and the Dutch winger is a type of player who will stick to the touchline and stretch the play. If they can get more out of him, then it could be a blessing that he is staying."
