Huddersfield Town manager Danny Cowley has announced that defender Tommy Elphick is set to undergo knee surgery following an injury suffered in the Terriers' 3-1 defeat at Preston North End on Saturday.

Elphick was forced off just 20 minutes into the game following a late challenge from Ryan Ledson - for which the North End midfielder was shown a yellow card - with Jon Gorenc Stankovic coming on in place of the injured 31-year-old for Huddersfield.

It has now been revealed that a scan has confirmed that Elphick has suffered ligament damage to his right knee, and the 31-year-old will now have surgery on Monday to establish just how long he will be out for.

Having joined Huddersfield this summer following his release from Aston Villa at the end of last season, Elphick has made 14 league appearance this season, and after a poor start to the season, helped them on a seven-game unbeaten run that ended at Deepdale on Saturday, leaving them 19th in the Championship standings heading into the November international break.
