Janoi Donacien has had an incredible start to the season with Ipswich and it hasn't gone unnoticed, with the player now being handed fresh terms at the club.

It means that the 28-year-old is now committed to playing his football with the Tractor Boys for the foreseeable future - and his manager Paul Cook has told the East Anglian Daily Times how he is 'delighted' for the player to pen a new deal.

With 14 appearances so far this season, he has already managed three assists from the right flank and is impressing many both at the club and in League One.

After spending some time out on loan with Fleetwood in the last campaign, it was perhaps slightly unclear whether his future remained with Ipswich or if they would try and move him on over summer or going forward.

Donacien ended up staying at Portman Road and he has now begun to thrive. He is one of the first names on the team sheet and has become a crucial part of the side that is now trying to launch a promotion bid this campaign.

Boss Paul Cook is certainly an admirer of the player and has revealed his delight in the defender signing this new deal. Speaking to the East Anglian Daily Times, he said: "I’m absolutely delighted for Janoi. He’s a really popular lad, a really good ambassador for the club off the pitch and no maintenance whatsoever from a staff point of view.

"But more importantly than all of that, he’s a very good player on the pitch. I felt it was a no-brainer to recommend to the club that we reward him and Mark (Ashton, the CEO) was very quick to pick that up."

Paul Cook started the season off shakily, after some heavy investment in the side over summer. However, he now has his team ticking along nicely and Donacien has a key part to play in that.

The Verdict

Janoi Donacien has certainly become an Ipswich Town mainstay and an important part of their team. To agree a new deal with the player is a fantastic bit of business by the club and should lift everybody involved with the Tractor Boys.

With his future tied down, the player can now focus on getting results on the pitch. It also sends a message to the rest of the players with the team that Paul Cook is trying to create something good at Portman Road - and hopefully get them promoted.
