Brentford produced a brilliant attacking display against their rivals Queens Park Rangers on Monday night, as they came out on top 3-1 in the West London Derby at The Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium.

A brace from Ollie Watkins either side of half-time, and a controversial penalty calmly slotted away by Said Benrahma, ensured Brentford took the points back to TW8, and won their third league game in succession.

The main talking point of the clash was the penalty awarded to The Bees by referee Andy Woolmer on the hour-mark. He judged QPR's Josh Scowen to have fouled Bees attacker Bryan Mbeumo in the area, with the scores level at 1-1, awarding Thomas Frank's side a spot-kick.

On second viewing, the decision looks questionable, so let's discuss this in today's FLW Six Pointer.

Was it a soft penalty?

"By all accounts, yes.

"QPR goalkeeper Liam Kelly made a save from a Brentford attempt, and tipped the ball back into the penalty area. Scowen and Mbeumo then fought for possession of the ball, and on first glance, Mbeumo went over Scowen's outstretched leg.

"However, when it is viewed again, there was minimal contact. Mbeumo went to ground in a theatrical manner.

"Scowen lunged in initially, and the Brentford player jumped out of the challenge. The contact was made after Mbeumo's momentum was taking him to ground."

Did the incident change the game?

"It could be argued that it did.

"After an hour played, the derby was finely poised, although Brentford were showing their superiority in possession and in their attacking exchanges.

"It definitely seemed like it had an affect on the R's players, but we cannot know for certain. it was a critical moment regardless."

Could we class it as a dive?

"Unfortunately, it looks likely.

"There was contact between the two players, but the important part is whether it is before or after Mbeumo begins to go to ground, and from the replays, it looks like the latter.

"However, without VAR in the EFL, the referee has a split second to make the decision, and does not have the luxury of viewing the incident for a second time."

What was Warburton's view?

"The QPR manager was visibly incensed at the referee's call, but held back in his reaction.

"In a post-match interview with the Evening Standard, Warburton stressed that the game was "lost on a big decision".

He added:

""I'll let you describe it [the decision] because I might get a fine if I describe it properly."

What did Thomas Frank have to say?

"The Brentford Head Coach was reluctant to mention the decision, instead praising the quality of the performance, in particular, the front three of Mbeumo, Benrahma and Watkins."

If Patrick Bamford got punished, should Mbeumo?

"Leeds United striker Bamford received a two-match ban, after it was found guilty by the FA that he successfully deceived a match official, resulting in Anwar El-Ghazi getting sent off for Aston Villa.

"It is a very similar situation in this case. However, the final decision is down to the FA, and how they view it. Regardless, for QPR fans, any decision would not change the outcome of the game."
