Leeds United face Derby County in the Saturday lunchtime kick-off looking to consolidate their position at the top of the Championship and open up a gap on second placed Swansea City, who they currently lead on goal difference.

Of the many selection dilemmas faced by Whites manager Marcelo Bielsa, whether to start with on-loan Wolves winger Helder Costa, must be one he is considering, with the majority of his chances coming from the bench.

So does Costa deserve a start against Derby at the weekend?

We discuss........

Alfie Burns

“I think he probably does; he’s making far more impact down the flank than both Jack Harrison and Pablo Hernandez.

“Hernandez is probably too good to leave out of the starting line-up, but he’s not exactly in-form, and I wonder whether Costa’s introduction might lift him of some responsibility.

“The Wolves loanee is going to be a starter before long and Bielsa needs to stop holding him back.

“He should be the man this attack is relying on, not relying on from the bench.”

"There is definitely a growing opinion amongst fans and pundits alike that Costa should be given the chance to start for Leeds against Derby this weekend, and personally I agree with them.

"The Portuguese winger took a while to get going during his time at Wolves, and his spell at Elland Road seems to be taking a similar route.

"In my opinion, Costa provides a more attacking and direct option for Leeds than Jack Harrison, who provides a higher defensive work-rate.

"If I was Bielsa, I would give Costa a chance to impress from the off against a Derby side who haven't been the best defensively this season."

Is this the WORST Leeds United XI from the last 15 years? We'll let YOU decide....

Ned Holmes

“It think it's time. The winger appears to have waited patiently so far and has been impressive in the opportunities he has been given.

“Having arrived as the blockbuster summer signing, I think everyone, including Costa, would have expected him to have made a league start by now.

“The 25-year-old has had an impact when called upon, adding two goals and two assists in his nine appearances, and you feel it is only a matter of time before he gets a start.

“Jack Harrison has not had a fantastic start to the season and given the Whites recent struggles at home, having one just once in their last seven, I think we may see Costa in the starting line up.”
