Following an opening day defeat to Barnsley, Fulham have now made it three wins in a row, the latest being the 4-0 dismantling of Millwall midweek, a result that took the Cottagers up to third in the table, just a point behind early pace-setters Leeds United and Swansea City.

One player though who will not play a part for Fulham manager Scott Parker is attacker Rui Fonte, who is set for a permanent move to Portuguese side Braga, as reported by Portuguese media outlet A Bola, his second spell at the Primeira Liga side.

So is it the right move by Fulham to offload Fonte?

We discuss........

Toby Wilding

"I think this probably is the right move.

"Fonte's record at Fulham - just three goals in 28 games - just doesn't suggest that he is really going to be able to make the required impact that they need as they look to compete for promotion this season.

"It seems therefore that a move back to Braga should suit Fonte as well, given he should be confident of enjoying more regular opportunities now he is back in Portugal.

"Given the way Fulham have started the season, and with the likes of Aleksandar Mitrovic, Anthony Knockaert and Ivan Cavaleiro amongst their options, I can't really see Fulham missing him particularly either."

Chrs Gallagher

"Without a doubt, it suits all parties.

"The forward arrived at Craven Cottage with a good reputation but for whatever reasons things just haven't gone to plan for him at all, with three goals in 27 games just not good enough.

"He will have been commanding a fairly big salary and he is nowhere near the team with Scott Parker preferring one up top and the club have Aleksandar Mitrovic and Bobby Reid to pick from.

"So, he was not going to get near the XI and whilst they have taken a hit in terms of what they paid for him, it makes sense from a financial perspective to shift him from the wage bill. Fonte will be viewed as one of many expensive flops that the club have had in recent years."

George Harbey

“I think it’s definitely the best move for parties for Fonte to make the move back to Portugal.

“He arrived at Craven Cottage with high expectations placed upon his shoulders after being a prolific goalscorer in the Liga NOS, but it just didn’t work out for him at all.

“He scored just three goals for Fulham in all competitions, he is approaching the wrong side of 30 years of age, and he just wasn’t going to get a game under Scott Parker this season.

“They have so much quality going forward, especially in Aleksandar Mitrovic up top, so it’s hardly a departure to worry about from a Fulham perspective.”
