Despite being in the thick of a relegation dogfight, Reading manager Jose Gomes still allowed striker Marc McNulty to go out on loan in the January window, with the 26-year-old heading north of the border to play out the remainder of the season at Hibernian.

McNulty has managed six goals in seven appearances in the SPFL so far, and has also appeared for the senior Scotland squad in the latest European qualifiers.

But should Reading look to hold onto McNulty if they are relegated?

We discuss........

Jacob Potter

"It should be a no brainer.

"If they are relegated, then Reading will have a clearout of the high-earners in the squad.

"But McNulty is proven in the lower leagues and would be a certain starter for the Royals if they were to be relegated to League One."

Gary Hutchinson

“If they go down, yes.

“He could score goals in League One, no question.

“I’m not sure they’ll need to worry about it though.

“If they don’t, they should cash him in, quickly.”

Jay Taylor

“I think he could be a real asset in League One.

“But remaining in the Championship would see Jose Gomez look to gut the side and rebuild.

“And he isn’t a second-tier quality striker.

“The only way McNulty will remain at Reading is if they fail to beat the drop come May.”
