‘It seems a perfect fit’ – Man Utd man set for potential exit as EFL club cast eyes over him: Opinion

Derby have taken Manchester United midfielder, DJ Buffonge on trial ahead of a possible permanent move, according to the Derby Telegraph.

The youngster was once considered as one of the brightest talents in the Manchester United youth set up and there were high hopes for him.

But Buffonge failed to break into the United first-team which will have come as a disappointment for the 20-year-old.

He has previously trained with the first-team when both Jose Mourinho and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer were in charge of the club, but he is yet to make an appearance for the Red Devils on the big stage.

Buffonge was a second-half substitute for Derby’s under 23’s in their win over Aston Villa earlier this week, and he’ll be hoping he’s made a good enough impression to earn a contract with the Rams.

It remains to be seen as to whether Buffonge will be offered a deal, but he’ll remain on trial with Frank Lampard’s side until a potential agreement is reached.

But would Buffonge be a good signing for Derby this season?

We discuss….

George Harbey:

“Buffonge is clearly a very talented player if he has come through the ranks at Arsenal and Manchester United, and has a bright future ahead of him.

“I just don’t think that this is an area that Derby need to strengthen, as they already have a host of talented young midfielders on their books.

“If he impresses on trial and Lampard think’s he’s worth it though, then go for it.”

Jay Taylor:

“Derby have been adept at at bringing in young talent and giving them a platform to impress and improve.

“Signing the Manchester United man could be a master stroke.

“He has a tonne of promise, and Pride Park could be the venue for his career to skyrocket with regular first-team football.

“It seems a perfect fit.”

Jacob Potter:

“This would be a smart bit of business.

“Buffonge is unlikely to be ever breaking into the Manchester United first-team and he could certainly benefit from moving elsewhere in search of finding regular game time.

“A move to Derby could be the perfect move for him, as Frank Lampard has already shown that he’s willing to give young players a chance this season.”
