Stoke City have been made favourites to win the Championship title this season by nearly every bookmaker and it is not difficult to see why.

They have had a brilliant summer transfer window spearheaded by new manager Gary Rowett, bringing in five new faces so far.

James McLean, Tom Ince, Oghenekaro Etebo, Benik Afobe and Adam Federici are all top performers with four of them having a lot of Championship experience as well.

But Rowett does not appear to be resting on his laurels with the club now reportedly chasing Everton defender Ashley Williams who they want to sign on a season-long loan.

This morning it was reported that the Welshman is set for a medical at the Potters ahead of completing his move.

The 33-year-old has made over 130 Championship appearances from his time with Swansea City so knows the league very well.

So would Williams be a good signing for Rowett's Stoke City?

We discuss...

Sam Rourke

This would be a great signing.

There is no doubt that Williams is not the same player he was a few years ago, but he still has the ability to excel in the second tier.

He'd enhance the Potters' back-line big time.

Jay Williams

At Championship level, Williams is an excellent addition.

His experience, leadership and solidity would surely make him one of the best defenders in the division.

Championship strikers are going to find it tough to get past the Welshman and Ryan Shawcross.

Christian Fuller

If Stoke do sign Ashley Williams, it might not be the glamorous signing that the Potters fans are after, but it might just be enough to lift them back into the Premier League.

A seasoned pro with the right style of play to fit in the league and the Stoke City side – a very, very good signing.

Louie Chandler

He may have fallen off the pace in the Premier League but there is no doubt Williams has enough to be one of the best centre back's in the Championship.

I already strongly fancy Stoke to top the division and signings like this prove why.
