Leeds United's pursuit of Liverpool's Ryan Kent came to an abrupt end towards the end of the summer, with the Whites turning their attentions elsewhere.

Marcelo Bielsa's side ended up signing Arsenal forward Eddie Nketiah on a season-long loan deal, to bolster their attacking options ahead of the 2019/20 league campaign.

Kent signed for Rangers on Deadline Day, and will be hoping he can recapture his best form working for Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard.

The Mirror's David Anderson has revealed that Leeds had agreed a fee to sign Kent, but opted against the deal so that they could sign Nketiah instead.

But did Leeds make the right decision in signing Nketiah instead of Kent?

We discuss.....

George Dagless:

"I think so.

"Kent would have been a good signing for Leeds but they did already have some wingers come in earlier in the summer and, actually, they needed a player that could go more centrally more than anything.

"Losing Kemar Roofe probably made their decision up for them and so it made sense to get Eddie Nketiah in.

"The young Arsenal man has started this season in decent fashion and I think Leeds fans will be pleased to have him at their club at the moment."

Jacob Potter:

"I think it’s a move that could sway promotion towards them this season.

"There’s no doubting that Kent is a player with a bright future ahead of him, but Liverpool’s asking price was far too steep in my opinion.

"Leeds were right to turn their attention to signing Nketiah on loan instead, as the Whites needed strength in depth in attacking areas, rather than another winger.

"With Kemar Roofe leaving earlier in the transfer window, Leeds needed a replacement to challenge Patrick Bamford for his starting spot.

"Judging by his first few games for Bielsa’s side, Leeds look to have made the correct decision in signing Nketiah instead, as he’s already scored three goals for the Whites, as they look to make a long-awaited return to the Premier League this term."

Gary Hutchinson:

"It’s a tough call to make. Both are quality footballers who could make a real impact at Elland Road.

"There are a few issues with Ryan Kent though that make me think this was a good move.

"Firstly, that spell with Bristol City worried me. It just didn’t work out for one reason or another and Leeds couldn’t afford the same again.

"Also, Liverpool tend to insist their players play or there are financial implications. If that is the case, Leeds made the right choice. Players should always play on merit, not because of where they’re from."
