Sunderland signed Glenn Loovens from Sheffield Wednesday in the summer on a free transfer.
The experienced defender was seen as a good signing for the Black Cats, who looked to rebuild in the Football League.
He has struggled for game time though, with injuries and form blighting his chances.
Were they wrong to sign him?
“I think so.
“He represented what they’d left behind.
“Aging, looking for one last hurrah.
“They’ve moved on now.”
“It looks that way now.
“At first it made sense but other players are above him in the pecking order now.
“Can I see him getting back into the side? Probably not now to be honest.”
“You could see the logic behind signing the 35-year-old, especially on the back of a turbulent few years.
“However, he’s injury prone and hasn’t had much of an impact on the playing side of things.
“With hindsight, Sunderland will probably regret it.”
