Semi Ajayi has recalled his West Bromwich Albion debut against Nottingham Forest back in August.

All eyes were on Slaven Bilic that day. The Croat was fresh in the hot seat and he kicked off his Baggies tenure in style, winning 2-1 at Nottingham Forest.

Goals from Kyle Edwards and Matt Phillips turned around an early Matty Cash opener for Sabri Lamouchi's side that day - the Frenchman also leading out his new club for the first time.

Ajayi was another debutant that day, and speaking to www.wba.co.uk, he recalled his first experience with the Baggies:

"I made my debut against Nottingham Forest away on the first day of this season. The main thing I remember from that game was how loud our away support was throughout the 90 minutes!

"I think that was the first game they sang the gaffer’s song too and they must have sang it at least 20 times that day, so for the following three or four days, the song was stuck in my head and I was constantly humming it to myself.

"It was the first time I’d ever experienced our away support and it left a huge impression on me.”

West Brom have one of the fiercest fan bases in the Championship. They're the 12th man that Bilic needs and a huge reason why they've had such a successful season this time round.

Ajayi has also played a huge role in trying to bring Premier League football back to The Hawthorns. Signing from Rotherham United in the summer, the 26-year-old has featured 35 times in the Championship so far, scoring five goals from centre-back.

A versatile, physical, ball-playing and goal-scoring defender - Ajayi is proving to be the complete package this season, and West Brom could well find themselves hanging onto Ajayi if they're not promoted.

The verdict

Bilic has brought in so many top players to West Brom for this season. Ajayi is just one of them, but there's also the likes of Matheus Pereira and Filip Krovinovic too, and many more.

The Nigerian is a leader and the rock of this West Brom team - if they're to finish their season and be promoted, Ajayi will have to remain as solid as he has been throughout the campaign.
