Nottingham Forest are looking to reduce their squad size, after the news that manager Aitor Karanka is happy for 33-year-old midfielder Ben Watson to leave the club in January, as reported on Football Insider.

Watson has made 20 appearances since arriving at Forest from Watford in February 2018, but with only four appearances so far this season, it seems that the player is not part of Karanka's plans.

So should a Championship rival like Birmingham City make a move for Watson in the January transfer window?

We discuss.....

Jay Taylor

He would be a decent option in the middle of the pitch for the Blues.

Ben Watson would add a little more steel to the middle of Garry Monk’s side, but I believe he would be a backup option.

They have plenty of options in the middle and the way they play, I do not think he would necessarily suit their system.

Gary Hutchinson

No.

There’s too much cost attached to it for Birmingham to make it viable.

They’re still counting the pennies and the cost of FFP sanctions.

Whilst he could do a job there, it isn’t worth the hassle.

George Dagless

Potentially.

Birmingham have some good players in the middle of the park and Watson would have to compete.

He does have something to offer though.
