Gary Rowett appears to have a bold plan at Derby County this summer, by overhauling large parts of his squad, as he looks to bring a freshness to the Pride Park Stadium, which could lead the Rams back to the Premier League after years of falling short in the second-tier.

Richard Keogh and Cyrus Christie could be on the way out of Derby in the coming months, whilst sensationally, Tom Ince, the club’s most prized asset, could be sold to raise transfer funds.

Will Hughes, who has been one of the most sought after players in English football over the last five-years, could also be sold, despite signing a new contract with the club recently.

With reports suggesting Derby are willing to let Hughes leave this summer, the midfielder must now take the step to the Premier League, to further his career in the coming years.

The 22-year old has often been tipped with a move to the Premier League, and after six seasons around the Derby first-team, Hughes needs a fresh challenge away from the Sky Bet Championship.

Hughes has made nearly 200 appearances for the Rams since his debut in 2011, and despite impressing during the early years of his professional career, injuries have hampered the midfielder’s development and the 2016/17 campaign was inconsistent.

There is no doubt surrounding Hughes’ ability, but he appears to be slightly stalling with Derby, and a move to the Premier League will help the midfielder progress to the next level.

Whilst it will be a brave move by Rowett to let Hughes leave this summer, it is perhaps the best time for Derby and their special talent, to go their separate ways.
