Garath McCleary has recently revealed what happened during his time at Reading under Jose Gomes.
The winger spoke about how he was sent to a different changing room and told by the club that he had to leave over the summer. A move never materialised, and then Gomes was sacked.
Mark Bowen took over as manager and introduced both McCleary and Chris Gunter into the first-team squad. The duo have played in recent weeks, and look like they are valuable options for Bowen as he looks to push the club up the table.
McCleary has been at Reading for seven years now and it looked like his time was finally going to come to an end in the summer. He’s now back, and scored against Luton so his career is back on track.
Here’s how Reading fans reacted to McCleary’s comments about his treatment under Gomes…

A good read and just what I'd expect from a true pro like yourself. Tough times, thanks to you & @Chrisgunter16 for staying strong, both myself and my 12 year old are delighted to see you both back – although she's happier to see Chris! Thank you again!

Class words from a class bloke. Resilience and mental strength showed in droves here. Refreshing to see how a lot to people thought it was. Shame there are still the usual suspects in our fan base, but fantastic to see lot of support for you and @Chrisgunter16 #readingfc

Great to see you back in the team and thanks for being so open and honest about things behind the scenes. It is still terrible how you and Chris were treated.
