Brighton are considering a move for Swansea City forward Joel Piroe, according to the Express.

The Dutchman is a potential transfer target should Neal Maupay depart the Seagulls this summer.

Here we ask our FLW writers their verdict on whether the 22-year old would be a good addition to Graham Potter’s squad…

One promising thing for the Seagulls about Piroe is the fact he adapted so well to English football - and this adaptability should serve him well in his potential quest to move up to the Premier League.

At 22 as well, there's plenty of time for the Dutchman to improve and get even better, which should bode well for Graham Potter's side considering he's already been prolific at the Swansea.com Stadium.

Probably still having connections with some people at Swansea, Potter could gain some real insight into how he operates on a day-to-day basis, how to get the most out of him and what he's like on the training ground.

That advice could be extremely useful if he makes the move to the Amex, though they would probably need to fork out a considerable fee for his services.

It does feel as though they need a longer-term alternative to Danny Welbeck though and Piroe would fit into that category - and he would be worth signing even if it takes him some time to adjust to life at a higher level.

Recording six assists last season too, he has also shown he can create for others as well as take chances himself, making him a well-rounded forward.

For Swansea, Brighton signing Joel Piroe would be a huge blow. He was excellent for the club during the last campaign and to lose a player like the forward right on the eve of the new season would massively impact the first-team squad.

Even if the Premier League outfit offered a significant fee, then it's not as easy as finding a replacement. The Seagulls might offer a hefty fee and snap up Piroe but then who do they go and bring in that can score the amount of goals that he managed in the Championship?

With the player having never been tested in the top flight before either, it is somewhat of a gamble for Brighton. However, 22 goals in 40 starts at the Swans during the last second tier season suggests he is a player with plenty of talent that could develop even more in the Premier League.

Brighton and boss Graham Potter would certainly boost their own squad by sealing a deal for him - but it would leave Swansea scrambling for a worthwhile replacement during the rest of this summer window.

Brighton have struggled collectively for goals in the last couple of seasons, gaining a reputation for poor finishing.

Maupay has been the face of that due to his inconsistency in front of goal, but his overall play has made up for his lack of ruthlessness in the box.

So while Piroe may be a more lethal goal scoring option, he will also be tasked with providing impressive link-up play to connect midfield and attack while also working tirelessly off the ball as part of an aggressive pressing strategy.

His experience playing in this Swansea side should help him in terms of his ability to adapt to the demands of working together with the team on the ball.

But the step up to the Premier League will be physically demanding and it will be a big ask to fill Maupay’s role within the team.

However, he has already shown an adaptability to new surroundings which shows he could grow into quite a force under Potter if he does indeed join the Seagulls.
