According to a report in West London Sport, QPR are not interested in signing Sebastien Bassong despite the defender training with the club in recent weeks.

The R's have got a tough season ahead but it seems as though they do not feel a deal for Bassong is possible at the moment.

Our writers take a look at the decision, then, as we wait to see who he does join...

I'm torn here, I have no idea if it is a good thing or bad.

On one hand, Bassong is a relic, a player with a past but no real future in the game.

On the other hand, he's a defender and McClaren is short on quality in that area.

QPR just anger me at the minute, they've got a rich vein of young talent but the blundering recruitment has ignored that and just heaped pressure on their shoulders.

Mismanagement at its best.

It's a bit deep that you get the defender in to play for your U23s and then decide you don't want him.

But that is football, and the one positive would be Sebastian Bassong getting his fitness levels up for any potential move.

Steve McClaren still needs more defensive options in his ranks and Bassong would have alleviated the pressure on his current back line.

He must have another option or is happy with his currently leaky rearguard.

Signings the former Tottenham and Norwich man would have been low-risk and he would have been an extra option.

George Dagless

It is perhaps a surprise.

Bassong would bring experience to a team that is lacking in that regard.

They aren't going to be able to make many signings in the near future, either, so I'd have thought this one would happen.

Financially, though, might be where the club is finding a sticking point.
