Leeds United striker Kemar Roofe has signalled his intention to return to action in time to help his side press for their automatic promotion spot.

He's currently on the treatment table after picking up knee ligament damage against Swansea City, but has told Radio X this morning that he's targeting a return for the Birmingham City game in early April.

Roofe has 14 Championship goals to his name this season, but will miss a critical period of Leeds' run-in. They'll be hoping summer signing Patrick Bamford can stay fit and firing, as well as hopefully seeing Izzy Brown finally make a first team appearance.

News that Roofe wants to be back in time to help the final push will be warmly received though. After a horror season with injuries, Leeds fans need some positive news and the former Oxford man's comments are just that.

How much of a boost would it be to get Roofe back? Our FLW panel discuss.

Jacob Potter

"What a boost this is.

"There would have been fears that he was out for the rest of the season, and that would have really disrupted their promotion plans.

"But they'll be able to cope without Roofe for that amount of time, and I'm sure they'll still be in the promotion hunt by the time he returns."

Louie Chandler

"Very good news.

"I fancy Leeds to cope for the next month or so without Roofe but being without him for the rest of the season would have been a big ask.

"Bamford is always liable to an injury so having Roofe back ASAP is obviously a bonus."

Jay Taylor

“It’s somewhat good news, as it is only a hopeful projection.

“Nothing is nailed down for the future, and he could be back sooner or later than the time he has been given.

“If he was to come back with a few games left, would he hit the ground running or would he need time to adapt to first-team football again.

“There are so many variables that it makes it impossible to know if it will be good news or not.”
