Derby County manager Phillip Cocu is still waiting for his second Championship win of the season, following a 1-1 draw against Cardiff City last Friday, a result that leaves the Rams down in 19th place in the league only two points clear of the relegation places.

The result makes it six matches without a win in all competitions, form that is likely to heap the pressure on Cocu and call into questions his player selection and tactics.

So should Cocu's lack of tactical flexibility to beat Cardiff be a concern?

We discuss........

Josh Cole

“Cocu’s insistence of utilising the 4-3-3 formation this season has certainly not helped Derby’s cause in the Championship.

“Whilst this particular set-up helped the Dutchman win several league titles with PSV Eindhoven, the fact that he has only managed to pick up seven points from seven games with the Rams is somewhat of a concern.

“Although he did make a slight alteration to his tactics during Derby’s most recent outing against Cardiff City, it could be argued that the club may benefit from playing two up-front in their upcoming clash with Leeds United.

“Yet if Cocu sticks with the status quo once again, it would not be at all surprising if the Rams suffer a heavy defeat at Elland Road to the Championship leaders."

Ned Holmes

“Yes, I think it should be a slight concern but it is his inaction that would concern me most.

“With the control they had for much of the game and having taken an early lead, the one-all draw against Cardiff at Pride Park looks a missed opportunity.

“The fact that it took Cocu until the 81st minute to make his first change is a concern but what is perhaps more frustrating is that he waiting until the 86th minute to bring on Chris Martin.

“The big, physical striker is perhaps not the most elegant player and he could provided the Rams with another avenue of attack against Cardiff, had he been given more than four minutes of normal time.

“Ultimately, that inactivity cost Derby against the Bluebirds and is something I am sure fans will want to see less of.”

Louie Chandler

"It is definitely a bad sign.

"Cocu is already under plenty of pressure after a poor start to the season and showing inflexibility midgame will be a concern as well.

"He moaned about Cardiff's direct style of play but that is something that he will have to get used to if he is going to succeed in the second tier.

"The injury issues will still be playing their part but it is crucial that Cocu learns to adapt."
