‘It is a tricky one’ – Assessing striker’s decision to join Aston Villa: Opinion

Scott Hogan left Brentford in 2017 after a sensational season of goalscoring, which led Brentford to the play-offs.

He has been in and out of the team at Villa, scoring just seven league goals for the Villa Park club.

He is now at Sheffield United on loan, where he can’t get in the team ahead of a long list of strikers.

Looking back, was he wrong to leave Brentford?

We debate…

Louie Chandler

“It is a tricky one.

“Obviously his time at Villa was far from a success but the time it looked like a great move for him.

“Maybe stabilising at Brentford for a bit longer would have been wise.”

Lewis Steele

“It looked a great move at the time.

“Sadly, it didn’t work out for him, but I think he would move again if he could rewind time.

“It wasn’t moving that was the problem, it was that he didn’t replicate his form at Villa.”

George Dagless

“Potentially.

“I do think some players leave Brentford early and then find themselves struggling.

“The move to Villa did make sense and you can see why he went but injuries haven’t helped.

“I think he might have been tempted to stay put had he had his time again.”
