The saga that is top scorer Josh Maja's future at Sunderland looks like concluding, with the 20-year-old on the verge of making a move to Bordeaux in the French Ligue 1, as reported on BBC Sport.

Though sure to be disappointed to see him leave, Black Cats manager Jack Ross can now get on with getting a replacement in during the final seven days of the transfer window, with Wigan's Will Grigg a potential option despite already having had three bids for the 27-year-old turned down.

With a fourth bid on the cards as reported in the Sunderland Echo, a move for the striker, who has scored four goals and made one assist in 17 appearances for the Latics this season.

So should Sunderland ensure Will Grigg signs now if Maja departs?

We discuss.....

Louie Chandler

"100%

"Grigg would have been a bit of a luxury with Maja still at the club but he now becomes a necessity.

"The Northern Irishman would guarantee goals and that is what the Black Cats will need now more than anything."

Gary Hutchinson

“Not for £1m, no.

“They spent that on Wyke and look how that panned out.

“If I were Jack Ross I’d hammer the loan market for the next six months, then see where the club is in terms of divisions.

“That will dictate his recruitment policy.”

Jay Taylor

“It is a must, simply put.

“Will Grigg needs to be added to the side at any cost should Maja depart.

“Grigg knows League One and is adept at that level.

“The Wigan man will be a more than adequate replacement for the soon-to-be former Sunderland man.”
