Former QPR Alejandro Faurlin has revealed the truth behind his exit from the west London club in 2016.

The Argentine midfielder made more than 150 appearances for the R's across a seven-year spell at the club and helped them get promoted to the Premier League twice.

He arrived for £3.5 million in 2009, a club-record at the time, and was a key man during his first two seasons at the club before injuries limited his opportunities in the first team.

The 33-year-old re-established himself to great effect in the 2015/16 campaign, featuring 30 times in the Championship and grabbing six assists, but was released by the west London club in summer 2016.

Speaking to LoftforWords, Faurlin revealed the truth behind his exit and opened up on the fact that he would've loved to stay at the club.

He said: "It was tough. I’ve had some dark moments at QPR, I’ve had some good and beautiful moments there, but I think the way I found out I wasn’t going to be there the following season, that hit me hard, really hard.

"It shocked me. It really shocked me because I didn’t see it coming at all. I was happy, I’d shown I could continue to play football and I had a connection with the club."

Faurlin added: "I’d played 30 games that season and I wanted to play football. It shocked me. It affected me a lot. It hurts me a lot. I couldn’t understand, for months."

The Argentine was picked up by Spanish side Getafe later that summer and spent brief spells at Cruz Azul and RCD Mallorca before joining third tier side Marbella at the start of the season.

The midfielder has made 13 appearances in all competitions for the Spanish side this season.
