Nottingham Forest midfielder Ryan Yates could be set for a loan move away from the club in January, with his role at the club set to be reviewed, according to the Nottingham Post.

The 6ft 3in midfielder had two strong loan spells last season, one with Notts County in League Two and then with Scunthorpe United in League One.

Both sides ended up in the play off spots at the end of the season, with Yates playing as Scunthorpe were beaten by eventual winners Rotherham over two legs.

A possible move was suggested in the last window, with Rotherham United keen on adding him to their ranks, but the deal collapsed and he remained at the City Ground.

Despite making his first team debut in the League Cup against Bury, his chances now look to have faded once more and Karanka is likely to send him out of loan for the second half of the season.

Is that a wise move by the manager? Our panel of Football League experts discuss.

George Dagless

It has to happen.

Yates is a good young player but now he is going to sit around for a few months by the look of it.

It's just poor planning from Forest and it's a shame because Yates had a good pre-season

Jay Taylor

It would be the sensible thing to do after bringing in an army of midfielders.

Ryan Yates isn't going to be playing for the Nottingham Forest first team any time soon with the plethora of midfield additions.

Game time is needed to develop so, the obvious thing to do is sent the youngster out on loan.

It is a good move, but for the wrong reasons.

Sam Rourke

He needs to sanction this.

Yates cannot be languishing on the sidelines at Forest, he's too good of a prospect not to be getting frequent first-team football.

He must be shipped out on loan in January on a half-season loan, and there will surely be a number of Championship and League One sides queuing up to secure his services.
