Football League World's Sunderland fan pundit Charlie Hodgson has urged the club to sack manager Phil Parkinson "sooner rather than later".

Parkinson took charge of the North East club in October and has had a very difficult start to life at the Stadium of Light.

The Black Cats have lost seven times and won just twice in the 12 games since he took charge of the club.

In that time, Sunderland have been knocked out of three competitions, the FA Cup, the Carabao Cup, and the EFL Trophy, and have slipped down to 11th in League One–10 points adrift of the top two.

Parkinson's misery continued on Saturday as Gillingham grabbed an 89th-minute winner against his side through Connor Ogilvie.

Hodgson was originally willing to be patient with the Black Cats boss and give him the winter transfer window to make the squad his own but now believes action has to be taken.

He explained: "My stance has completely changed on Parkinson, I think he’s far out his depth and I think he has to go.

"I understand some people, although not many, believe he deserves a window but it’s just woeful watching us play at the moment, it has to change sooner rather than later."

With January less than a month away, you have to wonder whether the Sunderland hierarchy will be questioning whether the English coach is the right man for the job and someone who they want to back financially.

Sunderland face a tough test on Saturday as they welcome fourth-place Blackpool to the Stadium of the Light.
