The EFL have revealed the shortlist for the Championship Player of the Year for 2019 with Che Adams of Birmingham City, Teemu Pukki of Norwich City and Billy Sharp of Sheffield United nominated for the awards ceremony that takes place this Sunday at the Grosvenor House Hotel on Park Lane in London.

In what has been a hugely competitive and entertaining Championship race this season, there have been many stand-out performances that have made the task of creating a short-list all the harder.

So who should pick up the award for the Championship Player of the Year award for the season 2018/19?

We discuss........

Jay Taylor

“For me, it has to be Billy Sharp.

“His age is the major factor here – the more senior of the three candidates, he has rolled back the years to perform how he has done this season.

“That is by no means an easy feat to achieve.

“Pukki is in his prime and Adams has years left in his career.

“For Sharp, this is somewhat of a swansong and to operate at the levels, it has been a true joy to watch."

Louie Chandler

"Pukki all day long.

"The way he has adapted to the Championship is ridiculously impressive and to be the league's top-scorer without a single penalty is outstanding.

"Adams would be a close second."

Alfie Burns

“It has to be Teemu Pukki.

“Nobody expected him to do what he did in the Championship this season and he has Norwich well on their way to the title.

“His effort this season overshadows his rivals for this award.”
