Former Celtic boss Neil Lennon is being eyed up by Charlton Athletic to fill their current managerial vacancy, according to journalist Alan Nixon.
Now, the hierarchy are searching for Jackson’s replacement, and Lennon has appeared as a candidate.
“I’ve seen Neil Lennon’s name, slightly unsure about how I feel about it to be honest.” Ben told FLW.
“Obviously comes with a good history in his first reign at Celtic and then struggled at Bolton and then sort of had a decent second stint at Celtic, but it doesn’t inspire me a great deal.”
“I don’t think his style of football, at least from what I’ve read, and from what I know of his Celtic team, doesn’t really match up with what Sandgaard’s ambitions were, or at least what he was saying in the press in terms of getting someone who plays a more attractive, higher press system.”
Only die-hard Charlton Athletic supporters will get at least 20/25 on this higher or lower quiz
“So a bit confusion in terms of that conflict with his style of play and I just think there are better, younger, more progressive managers out there.
“So yeah, comes with pedigree and history but strikes me a bit like Adkins in the sense that his best years are probably behind him and I would like to think we’re looking at manager who is sort of hitting their peak or someone that can grow with the club.”
“I don’t feel like that’s going to be the case with Neil Lennon.”
It’s really surprising to hear Neil Lennon linked with a potential move to Charlton Athletic.
His last managerial spell at Bolton wasn’t exactly a raging success, and there are potentially better candidates out there in terms of fit.
In agreement with our fan pundit, a more progressive, younger manager that can grow with the club may be more suitable, as opposed to an experienced head in Lennon.
Having said that though, that is sort of what they had in Johnnie Jackson and they did not give him the time to get things right.
This would certainly be an interesting one to watch if it happens, but it remains to be seen whether there is any interest on Neil Lennon’s part.
