Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa is making plans for the future, with the Whites considering a move for Rangers defender Connor Goldson either this month or in the summer, according to a report by Football Insider.

Bielsa is considering his centre-back options moving forward, with Ben White on loan at Elland Road until the summer and Gaetano Berardi out of contract at the end of this campaign.

So would Goldson be a good addition at Elland Road?

We discuss.........

Ned Holmes

“I can see the positives of this one but it does seem a little lacking in ambition.

“Goldson is a solid central defender and a good passer of the ball-characteristics that would make him well suited to a Bielsa side.

“With White returning to Brighton and Berardi out of contract, the club need to be thinking about finding some defensive reinforcements in the summer.

“However, there’s a good chance that they’re going to be a Premier League team next seasons. Is Goldson up to that level? I’m not sure.

“If he’s joining as a squad player then this makes sense but it seems a move lacking in ambition if they’re signing him to be first choice.”

Kris Smith

“I think this could be a wise move as Leeds look set to be priced out of a move for Ben White in the summer regardless of the league they will be playing in.

“Therefore, White will need replacing and Goldson has shown the credentials to play at that level, having shone in both the SPL and the Europa League for Rangers this season.

“Goldson has missed just one game this season in all competitions showing just how important he is to Steven Gerrard’s side at the minute, so a move for him wouldn’t be a bad decision.

“Given that Leeds will struggle to prize White from Brighton in the summer, Goldson presents Leeds with a much more realistic and cost-effective solution to the lack of depth at centre-back.”

Phil Spencer

“It’s an interesting link but one that I’m not convinced will be a priority for Leeds United.

“Marcelo Bielsa’s side will be determined to secure promotion this season and so the list of potential targets will ideally be with a view to playing in the top flight.

“While Goldson has experience playing for Rangers, moving to the Premier League might be a bit of a stretch for a player who is already approaching his prime years.

“That’s not to say the 27-year-old wouldn’t be a good signing, but I’m convinced that Leeds will have better targets in mind if they were to secure promotion.

“One of those could be Ben White who has been hugely impressive during his loan spell, while another option would no doubt be a player with Premier League experience or someone in the upward curve of their career.

“Connor Goldson is a decent option, but I personally think that Leeds could do better.”
