Aston Villa fans are preparing for life in the post Bruce era with new manager Dean Smith settling down to work with his new assistant manager, former England captain John Terry.

It was an appointment that was seemingly forced on him by the Aston Villa owners, but was it the right move?

We discuss.....

Jacob Potter

Even though he is a high-profile name I think Villa should have brought in a more experienced name to assist Dean Smith.

But I think that given the right amount of time, Terry’s motivational side could come in handy in this under-performing Villa side.

Gary Hutchinson

No.

Dean Smith should have been able to bring his own men in.

They shouldn’t be dictating to him who can or can’t work with him, especially not a big personality like John Terry

Jay Taylor

I would say so.

He knows the club having been there for a year.

With Dean Smith coming in, he will have to understand the players - Terry already knows the good and the bad points of them all.

He will be the link between Smith and the players.

It’s a good appointment in the grand scheme of things, it will mean there is some form of continuity at the club instead of total upheaval.

George Dagless

It did seem a little odd.

It was as if whoever came in as the new manager was going to have Terry as part of his staff.

I think he'll be good for Villa but I'd be intrigued to know why they had to have him in.

Louie Taylor

This baffles me really.

Dean Smith is a brilliant choice for Villa so it seems very bizarre that they would force him to work with Terry.

That's is not to say it won't work out, but for now it does not seem right.
