Aston Villa are one of a number of clubs looking to secure the signature of £6.5m-rated Peterborough United striker Jack Marriott, according to the Sun.

Would the 33-goal star be a good signing for the Villans?

We discuss....

Villa’s transfer business is resting on their promotion to the Premier League.

It seems unlikely that they will be able to pay Marriott’s fee if they are still a Championship outfit, which indicates he is a target if they reach the top-flight.

For me, Marriott isn’t ready to make that step.

If one side can do it it's probably Villa.

FFP might be over them a bit but they probably still have the clout to get this one done.

If they are promoted on Saturday they can definitely snap him up but then I'd argue they'd probably look elsewhere.

Villa's need for Marriott is highly dependent on what league they are in next season.

They will have little need for him in the Premier League, but he would be an excellent addition if they stay in the Championship in order to build on this season.

Chris Gallagher

It depends on Saturday.

If they win promotion to the Premier League then they should avoid Marriott. Going from League One to the top-flight is a big step and a risk they wouldn't have to take.

However, in the Championship he should guarantee goals and would be a fine addition.
