Blackburn Rovers were one of the surprise packages of 2021/22 under Tony Mowbray, flirting with the automatic promotion places at times and improving significantly despite the departure of Adam Armstrong.

The same could be the case this season with little expected of the club in the first season of Jon Dahl Tomasson's reign.

Rovers are the only side in the division to win both of their opening encounters, and they have done it without conceding a goal against Queens Park Rangers and Swansea City.

In a very small sample size Rovers have looked very assured defensively and Lewis Travis has stood out as someone who has kicked on from a solid last few seasons for the club.

Ben Brereton-Diaz opened his account for the season at Swansea, which is a huge positive, and Rovers will be much better off if the Chilean sticks around beyond the end of the transfer window.

It was hard to predict either way how Rovers were going to get on under Tomasson, but the Dane appears to be settling into Championship life very well and it will be interesting to see them up against some tougher opposition in the coming weeks.

When asked if Blackburn can put together a surprise push for the top six once again, Carlton Palmer said: "They've got a very, very good side, I was very surprised to see (Tony) Mowbray go from Blackburn after the job he did.

"Incredible job over the last five years at Blackburn, I was incredibly surprised to see him go.

"But, should I be with football?

"It's a great start, that's the kind of start you wish to get off to, two wins and don't concede a goal, it couldn't be any better."
