Sunderland are amongst a host of Championship sides keeping tabs on West Ham United defender Reece Burke, according to the Mirror.

The Black Cats currently sit rock bottom of the league and Chris Coleman will be desperate to bring in some fresh faces to help them beat the dreaded drop.

Would Reece Burke be a wise addition?

We discuss.....

Sunderland have been persisting with experienced defenders such as John O'Shea for too long now and it hasn't got them anywhere.

Their younger performers have been among their most impressive this season and there is no reason why Burke could not be similarly impressive if he went up to the Stadium of Light.

His versatility would also appeal to Chris Coleman, as he looks to build a squad fit for a relegation dogfight.

Luke Randall

Provides the solidity that Sunderland have lacked this season.

Although he may be inexperienced, the 21-year-old can help cure their leaky defence. A perfect replacement for the likes of Adam Matthews who's currently being played out of position at the Stadium of Light.

Of course, playing alongside the experienced John O'Shea would provide a great mix of youth and experience.

George Dagless

He'd be a solid signing.

Chris Coleman is great at working with young players and Burke would surely fit in with what he is trying to do with the Black Cats.

He lacks experience but the more experienced names at the club have let them down so what does that matter?

Alfie Burns

Sunderland’s defence is certainly an area that needs strengthening this January, particularly with Lamine Kone seemingly heading for the exit door.

There are doubts as to whether Burke is exactly what Sunderland need this month, but he could be a good addition, as Coleman might get the best out of him.

It could be worth a punt.
