Sunderland are one of a number of clubs who are interested in signing in-from Ayr striker, Lawrence Shankland, according to the Scottish Sun.

The report also claims that Nottingham Forest, Hull City and Oldham Athletic are also keeping tabs on the striker who has been in remarkable form for the Scottish outfit this season.

It's clear to see why Shankland is in demand, with the striker having 30 goals to his name this season and he has led Ayr's promotion charge from the front.

But with his contract expiring in the summer, his future at the club remains up in the air.

Sunderland could certainly benefit from having a striker of his quality at the club, and they will be hoping he is a Championship player with them next season, with the Black Cats challenging for promotion this season.

But would Shankland be a good signing for Jack Ross' side?

We discuss....

George Dagless:

"It might be worth a punt.

"I say might, too, because Sunderland have some good attackers in their side and they've just signed Will Grigg for decent money - do they need him?

"Jack Ross will be a good judge of whether he can make the switch, though, so this could have legs."

Gary Hutchinson:

"I can't see how he'd fit in at Sunderland.

"They've got Wyke and Grigg, both of whom will be around for a while, given their fees.

"They've had young, exciting strikers like Shankland before, Andrew Nelson being a case point.

"Without games though, they stagnate."

George Harbey:

"It could be a smart move.

"Sunderland obviously have Will Grigg up op, but apart from that, they only really have Charlie Wyke as back-up, who has failed to set the world alight this term.

"Shankland has scored plenty of goals in Scotland, which is a place that Ross knows like the back of his hands."
