Barnsley manager Daniel Stendel will have his preparations for life in the Championship in full swing, as he looks to assess his current squad and where necessary bring in the targets to compliment his side as they prepare to step up to the English second tier.

One player firmly in Stendel's sights is St Johnstone defender Jason Kerr, who made 37 appearances for Tommy Wright's side last season, and who is also a target for Cardiff City, according to The Scottish Sun.

So would Kerr be a good signing for Barnsley?

We discuss........

Louie Chandler

"It could be a smart move.

"Barnsley have a great crop of centre-backs already but introducing a bit more depth into the mix won't do any harm.

"There is no guarantee that their first choice options will stay at the club either so bringing in a potential replacement early is clever."

George Dagless

"Could be.

"He's a bright defender and could offer the same kind of ability to the likes of Liam Lindsay and Ethan Pinnock.

"If one of them leave you can certainly see Kerr coming in and being the one to take over."

Kealan Hughes

"I think it's a risky move, particularly if he's being considered as a replacement for Lindsay.

"He's done well at St.Johnstone but the Championship is a big step up and in the past players moving from the Scottish Premier League to the second tier have had mixed fortunes.

"He would need to settle in and start well straight away, which could be difficult as Barnsley could struggle next year."
