Ipswich have been linked with a loan move for Middlesbrough's out of favour striker Rudy Gestede as they look for a way out of the bottom three in the Championship.

The former Aston Villa man has been a bit-part player for Tony Pulis this season, but is apparently seen by Paul Lambert as the right man to carry them forward in the early part of 2019.

As a big, uncompromising striker, he might have the right attributes for a relegation scrap and his experience may well provide important too.

He's not the only player out of favour at Boro, Britt Assombalonga and Martin Braithwaite also appear set on moves away, but Gestede is likely to be a loan and therefore affordable to Ipswich.

Would it be a good move? Or is his poor goal scoring record proof enough that they should steer clear of a swoop? Our FLW experts discuss.

I don’t think Gestede is capable of keeping them up on his own, but he would certainly help them in doing so when it comes to scoring goals.

He’s a real handful and offers teams a different dimension, with his magnificent aerial threat.

It could be a masterstroke by Paul Lambert.

Jacob Potter

He's got to be worth the punt surely?

Gestede is a proven goal scorer in the Championship and Ipswich can't afford to let a player of his calibre slip away from them.

They lack goals and Gestede is exactly the type of player that can save Ipswich from almost inevitable relegation to League One this season.

Alfie Burns

He’d be a sound addition at Portman Road, but honestly, I can’t see Lambert getting his man.

Tony Pulis seems to be a fan of what Gestede can bring, and with others likely to depart the Riverside, they won’t part with Gestede too.

It’s a shame for Ipswich.
